WhatsApp to launch display banner to speak on the privacy policy
By MYBRANDBOOK
WhatsApp will display a banner on the app providing users with more information on privacy policy and terms of use update that has drawn massive criticism over concerns on data sharing with parent Facebook. "We previously encountered a great deal of misinformation about this update and we continue to work hard to clear up any confusion," it said. "Personal messages will always be end-to-end encrypted, so WhatsApp can't read or listen to them," it said.
Further, WhatsApp said to the Indian government that it will "continue to protect privacy of personal conversations across India". It said the updated privacy policy, currently on hold, will come into effect from May 15.
This banner will appear in the coming weeks. WhatsApp will also start reminding people to review and accept these updates to continue using the messaging app.
WhatsApp explained again how its privacy policy changes are primarily for businesses, and personal chats will not be affected. “Bigger businesses, like an airline or retailer, might hear from thousands of customers at a time - asking for information on a flight, or trying to track their order. To make sure they can respond quickly, these businesses may use Facebook as a technology provider to manage some of the responses on their behalf. We will clearly label chats to make you aware when that happens,” WhatsApp said.
WhatsApp in its blog also took a dig at rival apps who have been seeing spike in users after the backlash. We’ve seen some of our competitors try to get away with claiming they can’t see people’s messages - if an app doesn’t offer end-to-end encryption by default that means they can read your messages.
