TCS creates 4G Network for BSNL from scratch
By MYBRANDBOOK
TCS has acquired Tejas Networks, a global optical and broadband company that has been creating 4G wireless technologies that can be upgraded to 5G. TCS, the company is investing heavily in this attempt to establish a unique vertical for 4G/5G telecom products.
As per the source, ITI collaborated on the development of 4G and 5G technology with Tech Mahindra and TCS. Experts believe that even if 5G technology is deployed in India, 4G technology will continue to play an important role in the Indian telecom business.
As part of the Indian government’s efforts to encourage domestic telecom equipment production, major telecom equipment manufacturers such as Nokia and Ericsson are also manufacturing in India.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)-led consortium has proposed 128 deviations in 4G equipment specifications, with the highest deviations proposed in radio network (71), Financial Express reported. Other specifications where TCS has reportedly proposed deviations include core (18), interworking (6), deferred core (13), and deferred radio (20).
Sources said that, ITI and TCS have submitted their bid with state-run C-DoT for core technology and Tejas Networks for radio, and will conduct trials at Chandigarh.
According to Telecom Equipment Manufacturers’ Association (TEMA) “Much like a software release on cell phones (like versions 1.0 and 2.0), the new versions of 4G are released from time to time. Indian operators are not running the latest versions of 4G in all areas and, hence, will continue updating their technology and infrastructure till they are completely 5G ready.”
Sanjay Nayak, chief executive officer and managing director of Tejas Networks says, For the country, all the building blocks and ecosystem to migrate to 5G are in place, but the commercial launch is some time away. So, we should be building a 4G network which will be upgradeable to 5G.”
