By MYBRANDBOOK
The Telecommunication Engineering Centre, under Department of Telecommunications and Ministry of Communications has released a report “Code of Practice for Securing Consumer Internet of Things” as a guideline lined up with global standards and best practices, in order to secure consumer IoT devices.
The ministry of communications said that these guidelines will help in securing consumer IoT devices and ecosystem as well as managing vulnerabilities. The report is expected to be used by IoT device manufacturers, service providers, system integrators and application developers, among others.
The hacking of the devices/ networks used in daily life would harm companies, organisations, nations and specifically people, and therefore “securing the IoT eco-system end-to-end, that is, from devices to the applications is very important”.
The report said, “IoT is benefitted by recent advances in several technologies such as sensors, communication technologies (cellular and non-cellular), AI/ ML, cloud/ edge computing etc.” It is expected that there could be 26.4 billion IoT devices in service globally by 2026 of which nearly 20 percent will be on cellular technologies.
