WhatsApp to soon let users share files up to 2GB

WhatsApp is testing the ability to share files up to 2GB in size. The 2GB file size limit is currently only available to a handful of beta testers in Argentina. The feature will be compatible with both iOS and Android phones.

The company’s new feature will be revolutionary in the field of media sharing as people are using higher megapixel cameras that generate high-resolution images, videos that are larger in size, by allowing users to share images with better image quality and minimal compressions.

Currently, WhatsApp allows media files of up to 100 MB to travel through the app. This feature, if implemented, would set a new paradigm, becoming the first messaging app to send up to 2GB of data. Till now, only telegram has allowed sharing of files of up to 1.5GB.

WhatsApp is also reportedly working on two other major features; Reactions and multi-device compatibility 2.0. The first one would let users send a reaction to WhatsApp messages just like how they do it on Instagram and Facebook Messenger. On the other hand, the multi-device compatibility 2.0 would let users access WhatsApp on another smartphone using the same account and unlock the iPad app.
