Retrenchments at Amazon on rampant speed

Recently, Amazon announced cutting 18000 jobs globally, impacting many SD-1 and SD-2 levels alongside a few senior management employees in India. The employees said that the email sent to them by the company noted that the employee “must” attend the one-on-one meeting at their reporting office.

During the personal meeting, the manager and the HR explained the layoff process, details related to severance pay and other benefits. The impacted employees were only given 4 hours to get their official work done, after which their badge and access to work groups would be blocked.

Amazon has promised to offer 5 months of severance pay. Impacted Amazon employees have taken to LinkedIn and Twitter to share that they have lost jobs and are looking for newer job opportunities. As per reports, the tech company has also withdrawn full-time job offers, leaving candidates with no job at all.

Amazon isn’t the only one that has revoked job offers. Meta recently confirmed revoking full-time offers. The company also hinted at slowing hiring for all of 2023. However, Microsoft and Google said they will hire some important positions amid layoffs. Both Google and Microsoft laid off more than 22000 employees just last week.
