Microsoft inks 10-Year Agreement With Nintendo
By MYBRANDBOOK
Microsoft has signed a 10-year agreement with Nintendo to bring its flagship game Call Of Duty to Nintendo’s gaming base on the condition of Microsoft’s proposed $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The deal between Microsoft and Nintendo was announced by Xbox head Phil Spencer in December 2022; it’s now officially been signed on the dotted line.
Microsoft’s Vice Chair and President Brad Smith has assured the doubts of the gaming community and regulators about the monopolistic motive of Microsoft and tweeted, “This is just part of our commitment to bring Xbox games and Activision titles like Call Of Duty to more players on more platforms.”
The agreement is a 10-year-binding contract on the condition of Microsoft’s proposed $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard going through.
Microsoft's Vice Chair and President Brad Smith in a tweet assured the rising doubts of the gaming community and regulators about the company's monopolistic intentions. He said, " We have now signed a binding 10-year contract to bring Xbox games to Nintendo’s gamers. This is just part of our commitment to bring Xbox games and Activision titles like Call of Duty to more players on more platforms."
This initiative is for clear visibility and a global statement about the offences from the antitrust organizations of several countries along with gamers who have blamed Microsoft for banning certain platforms.
As per the complaint filed in December last year, the US FTC said, “Its concern was that Activision’s popular games, including “World Of Warcraft” and “Diablo” potentially would stop being offered on devices that rival Microsoft’s Xbox.”
Another complaint was filed against Microsoft by the community of gamers in California, New Mexico, and New Jersey that the proposed acquisition would provide Microsoft enormous market power in the gaming industry.
