Mozilla Firefox working on a built-in AI powered fake review checker

Mozilla is reportedly working on a new built-in fake review-checker for Firefox. Named ‘Review Checker’, the upcoming feature will be powered by Fakespot, which was acquired by Mozilla earlier this year. The feature will initially work on e-commerce sites like Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy, with Mozilla planning to include support for more websites in the future.
With the help of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, Fakespot detects patterns and similarities between reviews and helps users differentiate a fake review from a real one. Then it grades product reviews from A to F. The reliable-looking reviews get A while F means it is most likely fake. The company also offers review-checking services on its website and also has extensions for popular browsers like Chrome and Safari.
The new feature can be found by visiting a product page on supported websites and clicking on the new price tag icon to the right of the address bar. After that it will start analyzing all reviews on the page and grade them accordingly. This will help to identify real from fake ones.
Mozilla has recently started testing the feature and said it will be available for everyone from November 21 with Firefox version 120 for desktop and Android. The company says ‘Review Checker’ makes use of Oblivious HTTP, which prevents it from linking the user with the device they are using and the products they have viewed.
