Karnataka government enforces a "one city, one fare" policy for all taxis
By MYBRANDBOOK
The "One City, One Fare" policy is implemented by the Karnataka Transport Department in an effort to standardise and fairly compensate taxi services in Bengaluru.
This project guarantees that the state-fixed fare structure is enforced uniformly throughout the city and was prompted by requests from the Private Vehicle Owners Association. The goal of this policy is to make fare calculations easier and more transparent for drivers and customers alike.
The taxis that are valued less than Rs 10 lakh then the minimum fare is set at Rs 100 for up to 4 km and after that passengers will be charged Rs 24 per km. This step is aimed to standardize costs and offer clarity to commuters.
The vehicles that are valued between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh, the minimum fare set by the transport department is Rs 115 for the first 4 km. After the initial 4 km, Rs 28 per km will be charged. This will ensure a balanced fare for mid-range taxis.
For taxis that are valued more than Rs 15 lakh, the minimum fare for first 4 km will be Rs 130. Beyond that, passengers will be charged Rs 32 per km. This tiered pricing reflects the higher service levels of premium vehicles.
Passengers can carry up to 120 kg of luggage for no extra cost. If the limit exceeds then there will be an additional charge of Rs 7 for every 30 kg. This fee is in place to accommodate heavier loads.
The new policy includes a provision for waiting time. The first five minutes of waiting are free of charge. After that, passengers will be charged Rs 1 for every additional minute. This measure ensures that drivers are compensated for extended waits.
A 10% surcharge will be applied to the fare for journeys between midnight and 6 AM. This additional charge compensates drivers for operating during late hours, ensuring the safety and convenience of passengers.
Passengers will have to pay the toll charges during their trip. The Transport Department has stressed that fares must be calculated solely on the distance travelled, with no extra charges beyond the government-approved rates. This policy promotes transparency and fairness in fare calculations."
