While trying to order food online Chennai woman loses ₹44,000
By MYBRANDBOOK
A 23-year-old woman was duped by scamsters online after she ordered a food item through a food delivery app. The woman placed an order of Rs 240 that got stuck in the payment gateway. The woman used a credit card issued by the State Bank of Mauritius. After the woman made the payment, it was struck, and the food could not be ordered. Since she was using the credit card the first time, she called the customer care number, but no one responded.
After that she searched for more customer care numbers to solve her problem. She found a number on Google and dialed it to recover her money. Upon calling, she was asked for a one-time password (OTP) by the fraudsters. She unknowingly provided the OTP to the scammers and saw a message from the bank regarding the deduction of Rs 44000.
The victim has been identified as Kruthika, who works at a parlour and is a resident of Vadapalani.
Meanwhile, in another case, cyber fraudsters cheated a female employee of a private bank of Rs 95,000 after luring her with good returns on work-from-home assignments. On Wednesday, the 26-year-old victim, identified as Rutva Vyas (26) of Ahmedabad’s Chandkheda area, lodged a complaint with the police in connection with the fraud.
Vyas, a sales manager with a private bank in Ahmedabad’s Vasna area, stated that on October 4, she saw a Facebook post offering a ‘work-from-home assignment'. The post assured good payment for completing various data entry tasks assigned by the firm.
