YouTube to place 5 unskippable ads in a video

YouTube is now planning to place five ads on a video that will reportedly be unskippable. The platform is currently testing the feature to roll it out soon. Currently, the platform is showing only two unskippable advertisements.

The news broke out when several YouTube’s regular or non-premium users started complaining on Twitter and Reddit that they have been receiving 5 ads instead of 2, before they could watch their YouTube video. By increasing the number of unskippable ads that are being served, YouTube will be driving away the potential viewers from creators who rely on ads, and ultimately from the platform itself.

Several users have expressed their disappointment by tweeting on the decision. The platform has confirmed that each ad will be 6 seconds and not more than that. It means that if there are five ads, then one will have to wait for approximately 30 seconds to continue watching a video on YouTube.

YouTube tweeted: “This may happen with a certain type of ad format called bumper ads, since they are only up to 6 seconds long. If you’d like, you can send feedback directly from YouTube via the send feedback tool.”
