Mobile manufacturing backed by government’s PLI scheme to generate 1,50,000 new jobs this fiscal: Report

As per media report, in this fiscal year almost 1,50,000 new jobs are expected to be created in mobile manufacturing in the country. The report mentioned recruitment firm officials saying that top handset manufacturers are planning large-scale hiring in India.

The report highlighted that it is because of the global shift to manufacture outside China and also triggered by the Indian government’s production-linked incentives (PLI) scheme.

The staffing companies - TeamLease, Randstad, Quess, and Ciel HR Services said that about 30,000–40,000 of the estimated 120,000–150,000 new employment in this sector that will be created this fiscal year are likely to be direct positions, with the remaining indirect positions primarily in the manufacturing sector.

It is also mentioned in the report that companies like Samsung, Nokia Foxconn, Wistron, Pegatron, Tata Group, and Salcomp may also expand their workforce in the country.

Kartik Narayan, CEO of staffing at TeamLease Services told the news source, “Most mobile brands and their component manufacturing and assembly partners who already have or are looking to set up some form of manufacturing in India are ramping up hiring,”

He said TeamLease currently has more than 2,000 mandates in this space with more in the pipeline.

Quess and Ciel HR officials according to the report said they have seen a 100 per cent increase in mandates this fiscal year compared to FY23.

“Mobile manufacturers in India have restarted hiring in anticipation of demand boost. The supply chain issue of chip shortage doesn’t seem to bother them now. We have seen the demand for technicians, supervisors and quality assurance profiles nearly double vis-à-vis the average demand seen in the last two quarters,” said Aditya Narayan Mishra, CEO of Ciel HR Services.

Narayan of TeamLease said the government’s PLI scheme and the long-term vision of many companies to move production to India to first tap the local market and then leverage the base here to grow production to support sizable exports to the rest of the world are giving a big push to jobs in the sector.
