The government of India intends to construct a single portal for all digital public goods
By MYBRANDBOOK
A single portal will be launched by the Indian government to list all of its digital public goods (DPGs) on one platform. The goal of this project is to give businesses and citizens alike seamless access to vital services and apps including the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), and Aadhaar, among others.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is expected to spearhead the creation of the portal, collaborating with various ministries, departments, and agencies to compile comprehensive details of the digital public infrastructure (DPI) developed by them.
Government departments will be required to furnish detailed information about their respective DPIs, including the tasks performed, user statistics, underlying technology, adherence to open protocols, and any additional requirements for service utilization.
The overarching goal is to not only facilitate easy access for users but also to promote ease of doing business, as multinational companies have expressed interest in leveraging these DPIs for their operations.
An official emphasized that the portal aims to distinguish itself from the concept of a super app and will serve as a comprehensive resource for developers and engineers, providing insights into upcoming DPGs for potential collaboration and innovation.
Currently, around 60 DPGs have been either fully or partially developed in the country across various sectors. Estimates suggest that the global market size of DPGs is projected to reach $100 billion within the next five to six years, with the cost per person for developing a DPG being as low as 74 cents in countries with populations exceeding 50 million.
