TEL and Tata Electronics Collaborate on Chip Equipment Infrastructure

For the infrastructure of semiconductor equipment, Tata Electronics and Tokyo Electron (TEL) have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The infrastructure at Tata Electronics' current semiconductor fab project in Gujarat's Dholera and its assembly and testing facilities in Assam's Jagiroad will be accelerated with the help of the Japanese semiconductor company TEL.

With this collaboration, Tata Electronics will focus on training its workforce on TEL equipment and supporting ongoing improvement and R&D initiatives.

“We have a bold vision of becoming a leader in electronics manufacturing by offering integrated solutions across the value chain to our global customers,” said Randhir Thakur, Managing Director & CEO of Tata Electronics.

“TEL has a history of working closely with its customers, and its expertise in the semiconductor equipment space will help build a dynamic ecosystem to support the timely execution of bringing up our Fab and advanced packaging factories,” Thakur added.

Tata Electronics is establishing the country's first chip fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat, with a total investment of Rs 91,000 crore. Additionally, Rs 27,000 crore will be invested in a new greenfield facility in Jagiroad, Assam, for semiconductor chip assembly and testing.

Together, these facilities will produce semiconductor chips for applications across automotive, mobile devices, artificial intelligence (AI), and other key segments to serve customers globally.
