Airtel, Synamedia Renew Their Partnership
By MYBRANDBOOK
Airtel has extended its business contract with Synamedia, a company that provides video and digital TV solutions, for a multi-year period. Both the firms are already doing business with each other for over 12 years now.
This extended contract will see Synamedia working closely with Airtel on enhancements to its multi-lingual EPG and additional features and functionality that will boost the overall experience for Airtel’s video customers.
Synamedia, the company formed out of Cisco's video business, in a statement said their focus during the renewed period would be to drive digital TV innovations while protecting content and revenues.
“Airtel is an acknowledged leader in the fast-growing Indian pay-TV market and we look forward to continuing our long-term partnership with Airtel, as we collaborate on technologies and solutions that will help to shape the future of TV in India and beyond,” said Sue Couto, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Asia Pacific for Synamedia.
Airtel will continue to use Synamedia VideoGuard to safeguard its investments in live sports, news, entertainment and other premium content delivered to its 16 million DTH subscribers, and manage and monetize premium experiences on set-top boxes using Synamedia’s Foundation platform. This allows Airtel to roll out new premium services to customers without compromising on security.
Sunil Taldar, CEO, Airtel DTH, said, “Synamedia continues to be a strategic, long-term partner for Airtel. Our two companies share a common vision centered on innovation designed to boost customer experience and revenues while also protecting content investments. Synamedia’s engineering teams are second to none, meaning that we can always rely on them to deliver superior and robust solutions.”
Operators in India, including Bharti Airtel, are betting big on video, streaming content etc as ARPU from voice business is on a southward journey since last couple of years. The telcos, in order to drive their data business, do partner with multiple OTTs and video content providers to offer new and differential content to their customers. Airtel, for example, offers content from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hotstar, Hooq, Zee5 etc.
