Instagram testing ‘post to the past’ feature to be available for business users
By MYBRANDBOOK
Instagram is reportedly testing the ability to backdate posts via the “post to the past” feature. This will allow users to make a post that looks like it was done on an earlier date. The feature is currently in the beta phase, and the company is likely to limit this feature to business users.
According to Alessandro Paluzzi, the upcoming feature can be found on the share menu on Instagram, positioned on top of the boost post, a feature that allows users to boost a post to increase reach and engagement by paying a certain amount.
When this will be available, by using the “post to the past” feature, users will be able to schedule a post for a previous date, and just like scheduling a post, users can backdate a post by selecting a specific time and day from the calendar. Right now, there is no information if Instagram will let users know that a post has been backdated or if that detail will remain hidden.
The upcoming feature on Instagram could create a lot of confusion; however, it could also help some users who might want to make it look like they made this post on an earlier date.
This isn’t the only new feature that Instagram is testing right now. Instagram will reportedly soon allow users to share files via direct message (DM), and the photo and video-sharing platform is also working on features like the “Shot” Story format and “Pop-mode” camera.
The platform is also working on adding a new Snapchat-inspired Friend Map, which allows users to share their real-time location with friends, said to be end-to-end encrypted.
